Best Online Poker Strategy: Play Patiently

A common error made by many novice players (and a shockingly high amount of those who should know better) is feeling the need to participate on every hand dealt. A successful player only plays 20-30% of dealt hands. Much like a professional baseball player who is able to sign a multimillion dollar contract by maintaining a batting average of .300, the successful poker player knows that the majority of the time another player will walk away with the pot.

Bad Luck in Poker

For a game where most players rarely consider luck, there are lots of superstitions in poker. When you mention that someone was lucky in that poker tournament they won, be careful of how you say it. For instance, if you mention that you were unlucky, your luck may never change.

Aiming For A Poker Tournament

Poker to me has always been a little bit of luck and a whole lot of information. An Online Poker Tournament has been proven achievable but the first disadvantage I see is my “whole lot of information” is going to be next to nil.

I’m only going to see other players and myself as caricatures on my screen. Facial expressions, hand gestures, body motions will all be absent, as well as eye squinting, blinking or twitching – those ‘giveaways’ on TV and why many use sunglasses. Add to this the screen names: how do I know that Tiny Tina isn’t some card shark from Vegas alluding to be female and harmless?

A Little History on the World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker is the most anticipated and crowning event in the world of poker. It’s been around for so long and its history has been clouded by its popularity that people tend to forget just how great the WSOP was when it first started. Over the past couple of years, thousands of people have been trying to cash a quick buck off its popularity, and hundreds of web sites have suddenly popped up, but despite all of this the WSOP has been around when poker was considered serious card playing. It wasn’t a fad that was made to be televised into some sort of fashion. It was quality poker.

A Guide To Poker Tables

Poker tables are of vital importance in a poker game. Whether physical or virtual, no poker game can be played without a poker table. Poker tables come in varied shapes and sizes and can also be customized to suit any poker game specifications. There are no fixed shapes or sizes for a poker table; however, the most common poker tables are mostly rectangular or hexagonal. Rectangular poker tables are usually thirty inches high and forty to forty-two inches wide, though the lengths do vary from seventy-two inches to 110 inches.

Playing High Ante Short Holdem Poker

To play a session of high ante short handed hold’em you have to be sure of some poker essential qualities like: playing the other’s hand, understanding position and being aggressive when you should be.

Let’s say you are playing a session of no limit Texas hold’em and the table must be short handed – this simply means there are free sits at the table that no one has occupied yet. The ideal table for this is the table with 4 or maybe as high as 5 opponents. Now, ante means that you bet pre flop, at the same time the blinds are placed. You decide to ante on the pre flop and your ante bet is equal to the small bet. Let’s consider the table you are playing on is a $2/$4 table, this means your ante has been of $2.

Playing 6-max Low Limit Poker

Introduction

Shorthanded (6-max) texas holdem is a different animal than ten or nine handed poker. Low limit shorthanded poker has a few more wrinkles than the higher limit variety. Much of the literature regarding shorthanded poker is aimed at the higher limits, where many post-flop battles are heads up. We will focus on games similar to the 1/2 6 max games at Party Poker

Starting Hands

As at any level of poker, starting hands are the foundation of your holdem game. On the 1/2 6 max tables, you will frequently be facing 2 or 3 opponents with VPIP’s (voluntarily put $ in the pot…) of 50 percent or more. Now, just because many of your opponents will be starting with shaky hands doesn’t mean you should stoop to their level. Texas holdem at any level is about playing starting hands with positive expected values. The other poker players’ looseness combined with the fewer number of opponents will allow you to play more hands, but it is still optimal to keep your VPIP below 30.

Poker online. Playing poker in internet.

We will not talk about benefits of playing in internet before offline playing, but we will see what advantages/disadvantages, specifics has the poker online.

Unlike offline poker, online poker playing sessions usually are much shorter, players at the table are changing very often, rarely a player plays more than one-two hours in a row. As a result, the players do not have time to determine opponents playing style, it is hard to have a reputation for a short period of time. It is impossible to understand when the raise in flop was made by maniac and it is possible to re-raise or by tighter and it is better to drop. The same is for reaction on your actions. By default, it is expected from a new player that he is middle adequate, but the majority will want to check your raise, so you have to bluff carefully.
